More Disney!
Well, we're home from a wonderful weekend in California. Thursday morning we got up early to head to the airport, or o-port as Sophie calls it. Got to Disneyland at around 11 and spent the day hopping between there and California Adventure. Sophie was gung-ho for everything, even the log ride. Best picture of the entire trip was the photo they snapped of Sophie and I going down the final plunge. I've never bought those images that they take but I bought this one. The look of joy on her face juxtaposed against the look of terror on mine will forever be remembered. Saw the "World of Color" at California Adventure. Very cool. Makes the Bellagio fountain in Vegas seem like a leaky garden hose.
Friday was spent at the park too. Same story, same result. Had a great time. Stuck around for the fireworks at night. They do a bang-up job. People watching at Disneyland is fabulous too. I'm so stuck on how barbaric people look with those honkin' turkey legs as they clamp down on them with their teeth and pull fiercly away till the meat shreds off into their mouths. It's just gross.
Saturday was spent at the Getty museum. We go there often. I just cant get enough of that place. Most places, certainly most buildings, offer you a single facade or a single vista. The Getty center rewards you with a new, unique, vista at any spot viewed from any angle. It feels like design Mecca to me. Sadly, the gardens are being redone there so we had to confine ourselves to other "harder" spots. But the sun was out, the art was, as always, impressive. After the Getty we headed over to Manhattan Beach to dink around. Sophie had fun running into and out of the surf. The water was freezing and convinced me that small children do not have a central nervous system. There were kids out fully immersing themselves in the water. I was cold just looking at it, forget about getting any of it on me. Dinner that night was at one of our favorite places, Il Fornaio. It was especially good since it made up for the numerous crappy, overpriced meals we'd eaten thus far at Disneyland. Disney does tend to their "princess" visitors in an unbelievable way, but they don't do food...
Sunday was spent at the church of Disney. Sophie wore us and herself out. She fell asleep on the way back to the car. I took her on the big ferris wheel at California Adventure. What was I thinking? That thing doesn't look that tall from the ground. But once caged inside it's frighteningly high. I should have known better than to have taken her on that. Just one ride earlier we did a little pseudo parachute ride that took our tandem seat up about 40 feet in the air. I nearly soiled myself. Sophie just giggled the whole time.
Today we wrapped up the trip with a jaunt to a mall, a nice one (Fashion Island in Newport Beach), but a mall nonetheless. Then went to Laguna Beach to feel the sand once more before heading back to the airport and home. It's late now. I really am tired. So I'll stop writing. Enjoy the pictures. I enjoyed every minute of taking them.

Birthday Part 2
On Sophie's actual birthday Chris and I took the afternoon off work to take her out to do something fun to celebrate. We left around 1pm and got lunch then took her to Trafalga in Lehi. She had a blast playing mini golf, riding rides, climbing the rock wall, riding in the go carts with Dad and playing games. For dinner we took her downtown to the new City Creek Shopping area and she had fun playing in the fountains while we waited to get in to Cheesecake Factory. Happy Birthday Soph!
