The rest of the trip

Sorry we haven't posted in a while. We are actually home now and have been since Friday night but it was so busy and we were up so late in London every night, we never got a chance to update the blog. I added some pictures from Paris and Rome below in the previous posts and here is a summary from where we left off:

Our last day in Rome it was raining hard all day. We spent the day at the Borghese Gallary, it is a smaller museum with some fantastic Bernini sculptures.

We then took a cab out to our hotel near the airport for another early morning flight to London.

Saturday Sept 20

Our first day in London we didn't get settled in to the apartment until late afternoon so we just walked around the city a bit. Mom and Dad went to Buckingham palace while Chris and I went to Portobello Road where Chris picked up a 80 year old lawn bowling ball made out of wood. We then met up and wandered around Westminster Cathedral and Big Ben then stopped to get some take out to take back to the apartment.

Sunday Sept 21

Today we spent the day at the Tower of London, we saw THE crown jewels, the white tower and the spot where all the beheadings took place.

Sophie loves her binki/noonie; it was a beautiful sunny day in London

Monday Sept 22
Hampton Court Palace

Today we spent the day at Hampton Court. This was one of King Henry VIII's palaces about 30 min outside central London. It was sunny when we arrived so we took advantage of the sunny weather and went to the gardens first before touring the inside of the palace which worked well because an hour later it started getting cloudy and rainy.

That evening we made it back just in time to stop at a store called Hamleys which is the UK version of FAO Schwartz and picked up a cute little stuffed toy and 2 little books for Sophie.

Tuesday Sept 23
Today we went to the British Museum and ended up staying all day. They have some pretty cool things in there, our favorites were the Egyptian mummies and Greek sculpture as well as the Rosetta stone. After the museum closed we headed over to the British Library to take a look at the old Bibles, Magna Carta, Beatles scribbles and original writings by Jane Austin. Sophie had a bit of a meltdown in the library so it was a quick look for me, we got her settled down and found a quick late dinner at Burger King.

Wednesday Sept 24th

Our last full day in London. We started out at the National Portrait Gallery, then headed over to Covent Garden to get some lunch then to Westminster Cathedral and ended the day at the National Gallery. By 8pm we were Museumed out and pretty tired, we could have stayed at the National Gallery until 9pm but we decided to head out to find some dinner which we found at an Italian restaurant nearby.

Thursday Sept 25
We only had about a half day today in London. Chris took Mom and Dad over to the Tate Modern Museum while Sophie and I packed up. We then took Sophie over to see the Queen at Buckingham but she was out at Balmoral in Scotland so Sophie just had to get a picture outside Buckingham. By afternoon we met up again with Chris' parents and headed to the train station to catch our Eurostar Chunnel train back to Paris. We got into Paris that evening, checked into our airport hotel, grabbed some not so great dinner in the hotel restaurant and flew home Friday morning.

Sophie at Buckingham

Sophie did awesome on the flight over and back. On the flight home they gave us a little bassinet in the bulkhead seats so it helped that she could sleep better in that. Overall we had a great trip and lots of fun memories.
